The
picture of the Appaloosa mare and
baby that appeared on the cover
of Horse & Rider in March of
1973 was taken in La Habra
Heights, CA. I remember sitting
for hours in the corral waiting
for the right shots using my twin
lens reflex Yashica camera. This
was my first cover with Horse
& Rider, but over the years
many articles and photos appeared
in this publication--and often I
had a cover.
One
year later, March of 1974, I
happened to notice in the Los
Angeles Times Home magazine in a
pet column an illustration of an
Appaloosa mare and baby drawn by
Robert B. Rodriguez. There was no
question but that Mr. Rodriguez
has used my photo as a basis for
his drawing.
